Strike on Wednesday November - 9 - 2022, As part of the strike, the means of transport will move as follows,
The unions are going on a general strike and protest rally in Athens and in other major cities of the country tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9, reacting to the government measures to deal with the crisis of price increases in energy, products, and services. Meanwhile, the STASY administration appealed to the court, asking that the work stoppage announced for Wednesday by the Unions of urban transport workers be declared illegal and abusive. The appeal will be heard at noon on Tuesday.
As part of the strike, the means of transport will move as follows:
- The electric train will operate from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- The metro will run from 9 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon.
- The tram will operate from 8 am to 10 pm.
- Buses and trolleys will run between 9 am and 9 pm.
- The trains and the Suburban will run from 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.
- The taxis are raised with a handbrake for 24 hours, while the ships will remain tied up at the ports throughout the day.
- Cancellations and modifications of AEGEAN and Olympic Air flights will occur tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9, 2022, due to the 6-hour work stoppage of the Air Traffic Controllers Association of Greece (EEEKE) and the 24-hour work stoppage of OSYPA.
Media workers are also going on a 24-hour strike. The staff of public hospitals and EKAV, professors and teachers, as well as court officials will take part in the mobilization.
Also, the workers in the ministries, the tax offices, the Local Government, the insurance funds, and the urban planning will go on strike, while the workers in tourism - catering and the Federation of Private Employees of Greece have declared their participation.
The center of Athens will be inaccessible from 9.30 in the morning until late afternoon, the gatherings and pre-gatherings, as the traffic of vehicles on the central roads will gradually be interrupted.
GSEE - ADEDY is holding a strike rally at 11:00 in the morning, in Klathmonos square, while PAME is calling half an hour earlier in the Propylaea of the University. In other central parts of the capital, there will be gatherings of collective bodies and left-wing organizations. All rallies will turn into a march to the Parliament.
The pre-concentrations are scheduled at the following points:
- Kaningos Square: Federations, Unions and Competition Committees in the Private and Public Sector.
- Korai Square: Unions of Teachers, Unions of Workers in Universities and Research Centers, and Student Unions.
- Omonia: Pensioners' Federations and Associations, Women's Federation of Greece, Women's Associations and Groups, mass bodies of municipalities of Attica.
- Areas: Federations, Unions, and Associations of Professionals, Craftsmen, and Merchants.
The unions claim:
- Drastic reduction and ceiling in the price of electricity and natural gas.
- Abolition of Excise Tax and VAT on oil, petrol, natural gas, and electricity.
- Drastic reduction and price ceiling on the basic items of general consumption, such as food (eg milk, flour, oils, fats), clothing, etc.
- Guaranteeing lower guaranteed prices for agricultural products and measures to reduce production costs.
- Abolition of VAT on basic consumer goods.
- Substantial increase in salaries and pensions
- Protection of working-class and ordinary households from power, water, and telephone interruptions.
- Debt cancellation for working-class households and professionals.
- Expanding the criteria for inclusion in the Social Household Tariff and the heating allowance, increasing the family income criterion to 30,000 euros.
- Reinstatement of free urban transport routes for workers at the start and end of shifts, reduction of MMM ticket prices by 50%. Free transport for pupils, students, the unemployed, the disabled, and pensioners.
- Rent subsidy for working-class households, students, and small businesses, broadening the inclusion criteria and increasing the subsidy.
- Abolition of ENFIA for working-class households.
- Abolition of the pretense fee for professionals.
- Tax-free at 12,000 euros, increased by 3,000 euros for each child.
- Cancellation of debts to banks and tax authorities.
