Lifebuoys" in the energy "tsunami" of precision are sought by the government, which in view of TIF is pulling out its last weapons before the 2023 elections. In the "basket" of measures for the energy crisis, which is expected to worsen in the winter, are in addition to the heating allowance and an extraordinary allowance for food - "Food Pass" - worth 300 euros, according to the standards of the Fuel Pass.

Although the scenarios for the so-called Food Pass are increasing as we head towards TIF 2022, for the time being at least, there is no official statement from government officials regarding the allowance in question.

In fact, the scenario is circulating that the Food Pass is the new form of the punctuality check that was given last year at Christmas and Easter, amounting to 200 euros, simply enhanced.

Today, a publication of the "News" says that the government is working on a Food Pass of 300 euros, which will be similar to the Fuel Pass, will have a value of 300 euros and will be given just before Christmas in the form of an emergency allowance.

Beneficiaries will be approximately 1,000,000 citizens and specifically three categories:

low pensioners,
Unemployed
Vulnerable social groups are affected by inflation.

Blurry... the format of the Food Pass

Of course, the context surrounding the way it will be given remains completely unclear, since if it really resembles the Fuel Pass, the beneficiaries will have to apply at gov.gr and receive it on their mobile in the form of a voucher, which will be redeemed in supermarkets. If it looks like a precision cheque, the amount of money will automatically go into the bank account and can be redeemed everywhere, thus eliminating the concept of Food Pass.

When will it be announced?

At the moment no one knows the timetable for its announcement and whether it is expected to take the form of an allowance or a voucher. If it "locks" this week, it will probably enter the quiver of the Prime Minister's announcements from the TIF podium.
