How to get a residence permit after making a positive decision about asylum in Greece
After receiving a positive asylum decision, you are entitled to a residence permit, until you get the actual residence permit in your hand, you still have to renew your asylum seeker card. In case you fail to renew your asylum student card, your "PAAYPA" activation will be canceled and you will not be able to access free healthcare.
To be able to apply for a residence permit, you will need to get a decision from the Asylum Office, that you are allowed to obtain a residence permit. Often this decision is also called "ADET" which means Greek residence permit, "ADET" decision is often issued at the same time as your positive asylum decision, but sometimes it may take longer until the decision "ADET" is ready.
Once you have decided to allow you to obtain a residence permit, you can arrange an appointment to apply for a residence permit at the local police passport office. You can either get more information about your responsible passport office from the Asylum Office or have a look at this website where you can find a list of all passport offices in Greece, as well as their contact details (unfortunately only available in English Or Greek ) :

On-time, you must bring the following documents:
- A copy of the decision that allows you to obtain an "ADET Decision" permit.
-Your Asylum seeker card.
- One profile picture of a biometric passport-type, which will be used as your photo inside your residence permit.
Apply for a free residence permit, so you will not have to pay any fees. On-time, your fingerprints will also be taken and you will receive a receipt that you have submitted all necessary documents. Please do not lose this receipt, as you will need it to get your residence permit! Please ask the passport police, how will you be reported if your residence permit is ready.
Depending on the asylum office in charge of you, you will either be reported by phone or you can check if your residence permit is ready for pickup at the following link:
Please check if your status number is appearing on one of these lists. Your case number usually consists of 5 or 6 digits. You can find it on your asylum seeker card or also on the head of your asylum decision.
When you go to pick up your residence permit, please don't forget to bring the receipt you received from the passport office and bring your asylum student card.
After receiving your residence permit, your PAAYPA will be valid for another 30 days only, to ensure that you still have access to healthcare services, you will need to change your PAAYPA to AMKA. To facilitate this change, you will need to apply for AMKA by bringing your residence permit to the EFKA office or KEP cap.
